Recent Norwegian Red proofs have clearly demonstrated the elite rating of genomic sires. The proofs have generated a wide selection of genomic sires with outstanding production traits, while at the same time excelling in the all-important health and fertility traits.
“These latest genomic sires clearly exhibit the rapid genetic gain of the Norwegian Red breed” says Wes Bluhm Genus ABS Global Crossbreeding Manager, “plus the use of the latest Single Step Genomic evaluation system ensures producers can have confidence in the results”.
“Recent analysis of genomic “predictions” and ultimate daughter proofs of sires have demonstrated impressive correlations showing the system is delivering the performance producers demand” adds Wes.
A new genomic sire of relevance to the grazing/solids % market is Smaagarda 11865. This polled (Pp) red sire demonstrates good positives for fat and protein % and has great improvement in health and fertility. At 139 Daughter Fertility he is one of the highest sires in the breed.
While genomic sires are topping the tables, the high reliability proven Norwegian Red sires continue to impress. More of the Norwegian Red proven sires are adding milking daughters in the UK and these UK “born and bred” crossbreds are reaffirming the easy keeping performance the breed is famous for.
